You know this is supposed to be fun but I stress out about what to and not to bring every year!

And of course I don't use half the stuff I take...

We leave August 23rd and return on the 28th. Reports are mixed so I have no idea where we'll be fishing.

I bought the Nomad Design Slipstream 280 Kalifornia Flying Fish which is 11" to try out on the troll. It's the biggest lure I own! I also bought the 140 version.

Trying to keep it down to four rods this trip but I'm having a hard time with that, I think it'll still be five.

Buy it nice or buy it twice.

Bring it!  I take 5 on an overnight.they won't do you any good at home.  Patty fishing is heating up for yellowtail and dorado, don't leave your surface iron at home
Waters warming up, timing looks good for you.
Do what you can with that you have where you are

Crab Pot

Ok, narrowed it down to six rods!  ;D

Narrowed down the tackle too, sort of.

I doubt you'll be able to troll your flying fish. Those lures were made to be slow trolled, often under a kite. Most sport boats troll at close to ten knots. That works for wahoo and tuna lures specifically designed to be trolled fast.

The 280 version of the lure can be trolled in the 9-11 knot range. "We'll see"...

It has multiple rigging patterns to fly it from a kite, troll slow, and troll fast.

I'm totally experimenting but fingers crossed.

It's packing day.

As you can see the Seaforth Landing "Tax Man" is working overtime.

That's one big and aggressive Mako, never seen one at the gaff before.

I also "channeled" my inner PJ and made a 16 and 24 ounce Tuna Bomb.

I leave Friday at 0-Dark-Thirty!

You've clearly given this some thought. Luck is nice, but preparation is king.

We can provide you with the rods and reels you do not have.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Steve, you would be better off trolling a small Madmac or Halco Lazer Pro 190.   Good luck with your trip, and I hope you get into a good bite!
Stay Classy!

Crab Pot

Thanks guys.

I'm hoping to go with you next year Alan!

CI_Seawolf,

I have Madmac's, two 150's and a 240.

I also have a 150 Madscat.

I hope to get something on the troll this year.

Steve - Good luck!!!!   Don't overthink it; and with this group (I'm GUILTY) it's easy to head down rabbt holes.  You have 4 days so I would say you are VERY equipped for most things you are liable to run into.  Relax, have confindence in your equipment and have fun.  Good luck, and please give us a report (hopefully with a slob fish on the deck?).  Weather is supposed to be good so "Go get 'Em!" - john

Crab Pot

LOL John, I just packed my Halco's and X-Raps....I'm down the rabbit hole-without a flash light, and half way to China!
