We got our 9 year old grandson A RC Traxxas Slash 4x4  truck a few years ago & he informed me "I am not into the sport anymore" ::)
It usually gets left at our house when it needs a new battery...
Anywho, I got a new battery & have been playing with it,60 mph, nothing like this when I was growing up ;D I have been researching new bodies & seems like most are clear & you custom paint them yourself. Any RC gurus here? He mentioned an old Bronco body might
Get him into the sport again...

My best friend is huge into RC modding. Most painting is done from below in reverse, so the "top" layer goes on first. He's also real big on getting the bodies from the next size down and slightly modifying to fit. On a bronco body that would result in looking like a swamper which would be kinda cool.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

We just want one color with some decals prolly rattle can no airbrush.I see Proline seems to be a good brand but they are pricey :o

The "dupli-color" stuff from AutoZone works well from what I've heard. Then you could paint it a legit Ford bronco color.

Im not an RC guru but an RC fan with some years in the "sport", Im not use the RC's are often has some years ago but I can tell you a bit about paints.
I liked to use Tamiya spray can paints, are a small cans around $7-$9 dlls each, but they have additives to adhiere to plastic (lexan) and also are flexible so they wont chip when you car is tumbling and rumbling.

my advice is to check some youtube videos of guys paintings they clear RC bodies, one tip that help me a lot is to give a light coat of paint with a light spray of paint to the Plastic RC body, you will leave a lot of zones that are not cover in paint and wait 15-20 minutes they give another light coat trying to cover the rest of the RC body, repeat at least 3 -4 light coats, that will give you a better paint job that will look good and will almost never chip that trying to cover the car with just one heavy coat.

traxxas Slash 4x4 is a nice platform, my Ofna 4x4 10SCT is pretty similar (in my pics is the one with the silver Chrome body and also the same with the ATC body

Steelfish,do the decals go on the inside before paint or outside after?

The decals are the last thing on the body, paint is in the inside face of the RC body and you put the decals of the external side

if you dont want to get too deep into have a special themed paint or if you just want to get a new body to keep bashing (running the RC without much care at high speed, jumping, crashing, etc) you can also google for "painted bodies for traxxas slash 4x4" and avoid the hassle of custom painting an RC body.

there are some nice options out there on Hobby stores and even Ebay
