This just popped up, Perry's Cafe across from Fishermans Processing has closed for good.  Need to find another post trip breakfast location.

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Damn!!!!!  It was a nice place to meet, have breakfast and wind down. Some of the waitress appeared "odd" but were nice and efficient.
I hate to see people loose their jobs and businesses.

I am currently unemployed and it sucks! At 72 years old I still like to work, 1 full time job and 3 part time ones,  and the $ supports my bad habits, like eating and sleeping in a warm place and fishing.

The restaurant business has been severely and permanently affected by many factors.

First, the pandemic.  Folks got used to staying home much more and preparing their own meals instead of going out.  That has become a way of life for many —- eating out has become a rare treat, instead of 3 or 4 times a week.

Then increased wholesale food costs approaching a 50% to 75% increase since 2020.

Increased rent, utilities, and insurance costs.

Customers are struggling with the government's inflation percentages stated at 7.4% —- but is in reality closer to 40%-50%.  Plus stagnant wages.

Here in California it is even worse —- government fees, licensing requirements, and a minimum wage of $20 to $22 an hour.

There is little or nothing left for a business owner at the end of the year.  They end up working for free and taking all of the risks of a small business.

Many are finding it easier and more profitable to close up, sell out, and either retire or go to work for someone else.

The restaurant business is sort of like the reel repair business —- if one wants to make a small fortune, one just needs to start off with a large one!

My hat is off to those who have been successful in the restaurant business.  However, around our area —- they are dropping like flies.  Large chains, small mom and pops, greasy spoons, fast foods —- doesn't make any difference.  Tough game.

I agree 100%.  Oregon is not that far behind the New Peoples Democratic Republic of California Norte.

When I lived in California it had a world class education system, world class roads and was a nice place to live but that was pre 1969.  I saw what was coming and left, first to Alabama, could not deal with the racism, then Iowa, could not deal with the humidity in the summer and cold in the winter.  I moved back to home in Oregon just in time for the OPEC oil embargo and was forced to move to Alaska.... where I thrived and found a "new home".  Unfortunately cancer forced me back to my home town in Oregon where I am stuck.

It's not evident in only the restaurant business, you can see it more or less across the board with many small businesses, and even some larger ones.

Those aspects aren't going to change until we, the public, change the underlying factors.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

A good way to state the obvious.

A shame, that was a good place to share a breakfast before the ride home.  I think there is another haunt called " The Old Town Cafe" that I will have to look into.
Stay Classy!

I lament the loss of Perry's.  Classic diner vibe.  There is another place in Liberty Station that we used to go to when Fisherman's Processing was there.  A little more shi shi la la.  Breakfast Republic.  Right next to Stone Brewing Liberty Station (which unfortunately is not open in the early hours) :d
