Overzealous to a Fault... Anyone have an Antireverse Spring?

I was trying to tweak the anti reverse spring on my Alcedo Micron to quiet it and after some fussing with it, it broke. Classic.

Anyone have any clues on where to go from here?

The spring wire looks like it was glued onto the reel... not too sure how I'd get another one onto the reel without gluing it in.

Looking into possibly hot bending some spring wire, but it'd be so much easier if someone had one on hand

ouch!!!  not sure if this is your reel.  i don't know if stainless steel spring wire is available, but you might have to make one yourself.

I haven't looked that deep into mine. The parts diagram #25 (at link that follows) shows the spring underneath the anti reverse pawl #23 held in by a screw.

I'm guessing your best bet is to either find a spring similar and possibly rebend it or as you stated use some spring wire and make one up.  If you need a better picture, I might be able to tear mine down to get a picture for you. Last time I cleaned it I just cleaned around it and re-oiled.

You will most likely have to fabricate your own. When I make A/R or bail springs I avoid using heat, it can take some of the temper out of spring steel. That parts schematic is good guide to what you'll need.

Here's a couple of pics of a 2CS to show you how the spring is situated and how it connects in the body and on the A/R dawg. Be careful not to have a bunch of LOOSE BALLS!    rolling around if you decide to try to remove the pinion.

Alcedos taught me to be less curious about what's down there.  Tommy's absolutely right; don't get close to the ball bearing because they are not in a cage.  Getting it back together is like brain surgery.

I'd go to the tackle shop and buy dome stainless leader wire of about the same diameter as the spring.  On the way home, pick up a pair of needle nose pliers and hemostats if you don't have any.

If it was glued into place then it is the fault of a previous owner who jury-rigged something.  There is solution that does not require glue.

The schematic indicates that the long end of the spring braces itself against the reel frame.  The short end of the spring grabs the pawl in a notch so it can't slip off.

Shape the spring like in the schematic picture.  When it doesn't work the first time reshape the spring or make another.
