I'm not a reel collector but if there is a good reel to collect it must be Dam Quick Royal MDS .I saw it at Sportmart long time ago when I was still young but it was too expensive for me that time
Few year back I have a change to own a DQ MDS 3500 at good price but I think it 's too big so I did not get it . Anyone here have one of these reel ?

sandbar

I have one.
I purchased it on EBay and was disappointed when I received it and saw that it was repainted.
I will try to find it and post a couple pictures if you are interested.

Have to agree, Quang —-

I had a whole set (2500, 3500, 4500, 5500), unused, in wooden presentation boxes with all paperwork & passports. Looked great on a shelf —- but I never wanted to fish them.  Sold all (4) to 3 different people.

At least for me —- sort of like a gold-plated chainsaw.

They need a few nicks, gouges, and some missing paint from honest work —- or they stay on the shelf.

Historically, in context —- as the decision to move manufacturing to Asia was made —- to honor the engineers in Germany that had given their entire professional lives to the company —- D-A-M let them engineer and produce their "dream" reel —- both in form and function.  These were offered in very limited quantities.

The magnetic drag system was the best thing about them.  The gold trimmed parts were just for show, not function.

Previous DQ's will catch just as many fish capably —- and you won't worry about a scratch or two.

Best, Fred

Frictionless drag using magnetic field instead of traditional drag discs. Works pretty well.

Even create a current to light it up so we have drag clicker and light also ,I just made it up

I'd sure like to see how that magnetic drag mechanism worked.   The only frictionless magnetic brakes that I have heard of were quite large for the amount of torque generated and required electricity.

My thoughts exactly!

Maybe these reels are intended for ultra-light?

No, they fish very capably in their intended target range, and above that.

These DQ MDS reels cost DQ more to produce than they sold for.

It was a statement of the German Engineering Quality and capabilities when the engineers were let loose to build the reel they would consider fishing with.

Midway Tommy

I couldn't mentally decipher the beneficial purpose of the magnets. It seems more like a gimmick to me.

That was put forth an awful long time ago. If it worked so great I would have thought some spinning reel manufacturers would have implemented and/or expanded on the design by now.  ???
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)
