Penn 875lc reel

We have a Penn 875lc reel.  We have changed the battery in the line counter and the hour usage does not change.  We have loaded the line several times and keep receiving an "E" message. 
Is there any way to reset the reel for the hours and are there any hints in respect to loading the line to eliminate the "E" message we keep receiving?
We have also checked that the magnet in the gear cog is still in place and the bogey wheel appears to be working.
Do you have any other suggestions?
