Hello,

Can someone tell me what the purpose of this felt/cloth washer is in this location? The schematic I have from Mystic does not show it. It was in this location when I took the reel apart. It's more of a felt look/feel than anything else. I'm surprised it wasn't torn up considering the shape of the reel when I got it.

Thanks,

Steve

Dunno, but I do know that shouldn't be there...replace with carbontex or delrin.

If it was in that location under the sleeve it's in the wrong spot. It sits on top of the teeth under the gear. Maybe someone used it for a spacer to stop sleeve "wiggle".... use metal shims for that.

It was in this location. There is a hard fiber washer that is on top of the teeth and under the gear. This one isn't big enough to go there. The I.D. of the hole is too small.

Thanks,

One of the things about all the old reels we work with is sometimes finding the "puzzle" left by a previous person  :D   I'm thinking Todd is on the right track; somebody put it there thinking to take up slop in the gear sleeve/bridge.  Toss it. - john

What Todd and John said. Reassemble without the felt washer, Grab the gear sleeve(98-60) and pull it in and out. Too much movement means it needs a shim washer underneath the gear sleeve. Should have a tiny bit of wiggle for heat expansion, though.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Reassembled without it. Everything works fine. Thanks everyone.
