Has anyone ever used a climbing tree stand?  Maybe I'm having a Hold My Beer moment, but I have 25+ trees that need to have their dead limbs cut off and was thinking about using one to get the height needed to get to them all.  Yeah I could use a pole saw but that won't get to the 30-40 feet some of them are.  And I'm not crazy enough to consider a ladder to get them.  A tree trimmer will cost me $5000 or more. :d

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

my buddy did this and about fell out of tree with chainsaw when the slide ring skidded.

Rocket Dog

Yes, but only for hunting and you still need to anchor it. Cutting limbs as you go up? I'd say no. You can buy real tree/telephone pole climb gear on offer up. At minimum get an anchor belt in case you slip.

I am scared sheesh-less of heights
I had a 2 story colonial with a walk out basement in MO
I had to paint it to sell it, painters wanted $7k ++ to paint it.

I rented a genie articulated 4Wd and no ladders.
You can rent tow behind ones pretty cheap

Sibley, I have zero fear of heights or confined spaces.... no brain no pain.  I have no issue with others fears.

I have been trained and certified to run Geni as well as other man lifts and hydraulic cranes up to 100T, I worked in R&D and was a field rep for P&H Harnisfiger's crane and excavator division when I was in my very early 20's.  I would much rather see Bill go with a "Geni" than a tree stand and would make the run down to Crestline to help rather than risk losing Bill.  He is one of my favorite turds.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

Thanks Lee, I think 🤣🤣🤣  Thought about a Geni but it would have to be hill climb rated,  pretty steep to get the trees and a hard climb to get back up.

I dont want to get a set of gaffs and try to climb the trees.  My dad used to climb poles with gaffs and burned a pole.  Wasnt pretty.  My mom and her sister spent a couple hours pulling splinters.  Of course this was back in the day and a lot of whiskey was involved.

Good luck Billy Boy, if that tree stand falls, which they do every now & again, it'll cost you a hell of a lot more than that $5K.  ;)
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

OK, I get it.  Idea squashed. How about a 12 Guage to trim the trees?  Maybe 10 Guage?

I am not sure how long the biggest "Geni" are but they have one in KF with a 120' reach.  They are not cheap but I paid $14,000 to take out 6 trees.  I have 2 more dead ones to take down and one of these days Mary will be out of town for a week or two and I will rent one and take them down for less than $1000 with the help of the algae crew.

They have some contraptions loosely called spider lifts. They're on tracks and shrink down to get thru a back yard gate. They have 4 outriggers and usually around 60-80' of working height and work on slopes pretty well
Do what you can with that you have where you are

Heck Lee, I'm pretty good with a chainsaw,  bottle of bourbon I'll drop your trees.  Only guarantee is they WILL hit the ground >:D

I am probably the only person on this forum that has gotten seasick....in a climbing deer stand.  Other than that, I'm good with coming up the hill and whacking some limbs. - john

I have a telescopic pole pruner that's extends to 65'. I've sawed off some rather large limbs with it, and the $250 price was worth it to me. Bought online about 10-12 years ago, so it's likely to have gone up in cost a bit.

I am experienced at climbing trees from my logging days, but no longer had access to that climbing gear, and the pruning pole is much safer than climbing at my old age.
