Pelagic/Omoto PLD20 initial service - removing the line out alarm cog

I've just purchased a Pelagic Extreme PLD20 reel. Taking Alan's advice I decided to open it up and service it before using it. The bearings are sealed units and noting Alan's comment about the dry bearings in another Omoto reel I would like to open the bearings and pack them with grease. One of the bearings can only be accessed by removing the spool shaft from the spool. It is locked to the spool by the line out alarm cog. Does anyone know how to remove this cog from the spool?

FYI, I don't recommend any OMOTO GTR as long as you don't pay too much money for it.

Don't understand - "you don't recommend" or "you do recommend as long as I don't pay too much"? Is GTR a model? Or Game/Trolling Reel?

PLD 20 is the same model of GTR by Omoto. I meant that if it costs more than $80.00, I would not buy it. I have been dealing with omoto for the past 8 years, and I have tested that GTR. I am not impressed.
If you want good quality Omoto's reel, I recommend the Poesidon, Zorro, VS, and Severo series only.

i THINK you have to dig underneath the white nylon with two thin blades at 180 degrees from each other and "lift" at the same time.  that should "pop" it out.  look for a tiny retaining clip on the shaft first.  i did not see one in the photo, but look first.  alan

Thanks Alan. The bearings I was able to inspect were all packed with grease. So I've reassembled it and the last bearing can wait for the next time its open.

Funny, looks just like a Mitchell Ti 12.20

Used the reel 2 or 3 times and so far I'm very happy with it. It handled 16 lb kingfish (yellowtail amberjacks for US fishers) with ease.
