Hi
My name is Greg and I am a retired Train Driver
I have an appreciation of old things and that includes fishing reels
I have my dads old Shakespeare 2700 it is all complete except it is missing the small flat head bolt that secures the winder on , I would like to use it on the old rod it went with but need the bolt
Can anyone steer me in the right direction to get one
Thanks in advance
Greg

If anyone has it, it will be Fred. He will be along directly.

Welcome aboard, Greg —-

There are a few variations on the Crank Keeper offside bolt on these.

The trick is to get the right depth that fastens correctly and does not impede the handle rotation.

I likely have hundreds or thousands of these loose in some of my scrap drawers.

If I had a Shakes 2700 reel to do a bench match —- it would be easy to get the right one.

Might have one out in the outer shops —- but might not have the time to look too deeply.  But I'll take a look.  Seems like I have seen one of these in one of the bins.

You could always just send me the reel —- I would match a bolt up, and send it back to you.  N/C, but expenses for double shipping would run around $20.

Best, Fred

No big deal —-

Good luck, I am sure you will find what you need.  It is not a hard thing to source.

Greetings, Greg, from Minnesota USA.  "Train Driver"--that sounds like what we would call an Engineer in the states.  Perhaps you are from Britain?  In any event, glad you are with us & hopeful you will get that reel going.

I think I found a bolt for my 2700
a junker reel on eBay
it sounds like it is similar to the 2700 = 10 mm head 3.5 mm width
$8 plus postage

Bugger
The old Olympic reel I bought for the handle bolt I bought is 1mm to big in width and thread for the Shakespeare
My old work mate was a machinist
I am giving him the bolt the trim down on his metal lathe and rethread
My cost me a bottle of bourbon but at least I'll get the bolt to fit the reel

Tried to post a picture of the bolt against the reel but couldn't past for some reason
