Scroll down towards the bottom of the page after clicking on the link to see the reel.

Looks like a Shimano GR reel. Not familiar with those but it doesn't look any different (to me) from all the other Shimano rear drag spinners of the era.

Might be kinda cool. Have fun with it.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Thanks for the id on the reel Jason
It reminds me of an old abu cardinal had years ago

The GR2 arrived today
Its so cool and made in Japan
I don't know what the line on it is but will take it off and replace with some fresh line
I may stick with mono
in regards to servicing the rear drag reels
has anyone got any you tube links they can recommend

steelfish

it loooks pretty similar to a tiny shimano reel Magnunlite GT-X  i Have.

check  https://alantani.com/index.php/topic,27063.msg324888.html#msg324888

it has rear drag and the same "fighting drag lever"

Thanks steel fish
Very interesting read

Looks like a graphite(fancy plastic) spool on yours Gregory. I had an early 80's Shimano like that. Should be fine with mono. but be careful and don't wind-in under a heavy load. Ask me how I know this, yeah I broke the top of my spool off.
