Are you planning on automatically adjusting the tension with stepper or something, or will that be done manually?

You can stick the video in YouTube or whatever, and post a link, or you can click on the Gallery button at the header and add a video directly.

Not using slip clutch.  The load cell measure vertical force on the white pulley, which i calibrated using the tension measured with a hanging dead weight over the plastic spool on bee knees and compare it with tension measured using a spring scale when the bee knees i tighten down by hand. which yeild satisfactory margin about 3%. I have tried tightening the bee knees close to 10lb but have yet to try 20lb drag for the big conventional. Need to change the placement of motor and spool holder so big overhead can be added with a t bar to move the reel handle. As mentioned earlier, working on an idea for drag hub with disc drag to hold donor spool for tension, and load cells reading will be use to control the movement of a stepper motor axial movement agaisnt the disc drag.

By the definition I am used to, a disk drag is a slip clutch.  I just was not certain where it was located. Couldn't you just whip something up to  tighten the drag on the bees knees?  Stepper and some gearing to adjust the drag. The gears could be 3D printed.

Interring project.  Thanks for sharing!

If I wanted electronically controlled tension, I'd be looking at a small motorcycle rear brake with a linear actuator on the master cylinder. Heck even a decent mountain bike disc brake would probably provide all you need if you could find a nice way to actuate it.
