Hello!
This is my first post here.
I'm having an issue with my Makaira 50WII.
The handle wasn't as smooth as it used to be so I took it apart for the first time (the handle assembly and gears, I've opened the reel up before just not that part)
And I re-greased the inner part and the 'axle' of the reel.
Reel handle spins fine now, but when I reel in, it sounds like the AR pawls are clicking?
I made sure I put them in correctly based on the rebuild link on here from 2010: https://alantani.com/index.php/topic,750.0.html

Are the tolerances here limited?
Everything on the reel works fine but man retrieval is insanely loud now. Louder than the tiagra 50Wii I used to have.
Help wanted!!

They can be loud if the springs on the dogs are not installed correctly. If they are not springing they click all the time. Try that.

Thanks Todd!
I did a bit of tinkering and figured out that if I push the handle in reverse hard enough the anti reverse wasn't properly seated and it would reverse.
The springs that go onto the 'clutch' of the reel handle gear assembly seemed to be a bit 'loose' therefore they weren't engaging the dogs.
I made sure this clutch was extremely dry and didn't have any grease on it, then I tightened the clutch side of each spring so they'd grab the clutch better. Seemed to work fine!
