I took this reel apart without instruction, then discovered this chatlist and its videos. All is good, except when I took the reel apart, the pinion gear did not remain in the side case. It was attached to the spindle on the spool. It is impossible to put it back together without removing the pinion gear and placing it within the side case assembly first. How does this pinion gear come off? Special tool required?

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

No, I don't think so. The reel is pretty clean. There was very minor corrosion on the exterior, such as the edge of the spool and the clutch lever, but the inside is in good shape.

Keta

It should slide off, if not it is locked onto the shaft with rust.

It should slide right off, like Lee said it's corroded on the shaft. Penetrating oil and heat and see if it will slide off
Do what you can with that you have where you are

This is not uncommon, and when in doubt, trust in The Boss...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlbyJoE5YEM
Afterwards be sure to clean and burnish the spool shaft and pinion bore. - john

There are several suggestions in this thread - https://alantani.com/index.php?topic=11708.0

Fred and Alan have good suggestions for you.

Thanks for the advice! After a drop of WD40, waiting a couple minutes, the gear pulled off with my fingers. It was gummy inside, but no rust or corrosion. I have cleaned up the shaft with fine emery cloth. Everything looks pretty good.

Keta

Good, you got lucky.  Check for dammage on the pinion yoke.
