anybody ever run a very thin light bead of the red (or other) gasket in a tube
type stuff to increase water proofing of a conventional reel? may be used in surf one day.

i understand it may make it harder to take apart later, but is it worth it?
does it work?

thanks

Water is generally getting into a conventional regardless. Even ones designed from the start to be sealed... Aren't always. So trying to add a Sealing to an existing reel isn't gonna go well. Sealing it just traps it in there.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

see the Tranx Salt Problem thread from a few days ago.

Can't keep water out of the side-plate to spool flange gap. A light painting on of grease everywhere inside there and a partial take-down to dab out the water every couple of trips, is the best option for me. Also an external coating of grease on any ball bearings(after oiling internally) might make 'em last longer.
