The poulan 6.75 felt like a new mower after the filter change .

I picked up a champion plug from Walmart .

Would a ngk comparable be a better option.

I mowed for nearly 2 hours today and so that would be around 40 he max a season.
I would estimate current plug has 400 hrs

I would bet there is a recommended Champion plug, which I would stick with. IMHO.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

Short of the very pointy end of performance, a spark plug is a spark plug, all other things being equal.

I did see an auto-shop video once; The guy showed 2 plugs and the boxes they came in. One a crapola knock-off that was flawed in construction and wouldn't last, and the other was the real thing. The differences were so slight, especially the printing, that you really had to know. Maybe the price was the best indication.

The only benefit from the "fancy" (Platinum/iridium) plugs is longevity. On a small machine where there's usually just one plug, it pokes out the top or side of the motor, and it doesn't do that many hours in the grand scheme of things, a good old copper plug is more than adequate.
