Honda HR195 lawnmower

Back home after 3 weeks with grandkids ,my grass was so tall and been rain a lot in Houston .Grass was tall and wet ,I don't want HOA sent a notice so I have to cut it today .This one don't come with bag but it had a mulching plug ,at this time Honda don't design mulching blade for this lawnmower ,I use mulching blade for model HR215 ( 21 in blade )and cut off 1" each end to install on this HR 195 mower ( 19" wide )It's mulch very good .If you compare the grass clip with Toro recycler so it's a little bigger but use much less power .No problem with tall and wet grass .Not bad for 35 years old lawnmower

My neighbor gave me his old honda SP lawnmower,he said the motor was good but TX was bad.I haven't looked at it yet,google tells me the rear wheels have some cogs that go bad rather than
The TX.I am assuming they are like the washing machine agitator

If It was belt drive and rear wheel making click noise but not moving normally the clutch work like the dog in fishing reel went bad and you can fix it ,parts are not too expensive .

yep I haven't took the wheels off,but I am sure the cogs are the weak point-plastic.

On our Honda self-propelled mower, the fix was the ratchet keys that lock into the inside of both rear drive pinion gears.

Bought replacements on Amazon including keys, pinion gears, keepers, and springs for less than $10.  Replaced the drive belt at the same time.

Fix that mower, Honda is discontinuing production of these mowers for the US market.  Just numbers and $$$ and the government regulations regarding small gas motor emissions.

fill in serial # or model# on your lawnmower to find out what parts you need to repair it but don't order there . look up part # on ebay or Amazon , it's much cheaper . My honda is much older and I don't know much about newer model

I believe Honda stop producing and selling gas powered walk behind mowers in the US a couple of years ago (2023).  There are a few suppliers that may have old stock that you can buy.

However, they just announced they are bringing back walk behind mowers.

Yes, you guessed it, battery powered, "$$$$$" expensive mowers -- NOT gas powered mowers.

I could never get my Honda mowers to give me a really nice finish cut, bagging or mulching, and preferred my raggedy old Snapper Hi-Vac. It finally died and I have a Toro Super Recycler that's OK at best. The Personal Pace self-propelled thing makes it where the rear wheels lock up sometimes if I try to back up and irks me to no end. The best thing about the Toro is that it can be tipped up on end with the handle folded, and takes up very little floor space in my narrow garage.
Snapper is out of production, Honda quit making gas mowers...options are getting limited.

I bought a toro recycler from a local refurb place,they get all Home Depot's hand me downs.This one still had the plastic on it.I had to put jets in the
 "plastic carb" 6 months later (yes it has a plastic carb) ,then a new amazon carb this year. The self-propel seems to be slow or too fast for me, the adjustment is finicky. Non-ethanol gas is a must though.

I agree that Toro Recycler get the best even grass . the belt drive self-propelled allow a little slip when start mowing  while most Honda seem engage too quick make uneven cut my gear drive mower actually lift the front end a little when engage some hydrostatic mower are much more smooth . The con of Toro recycler is they use B.S Chinese engine that doesn't last long . The original recycler that use Suzuki engine last very long

Toro claims  with a decal on the motor "Guaranteed to Start" Said the Plastic carburetor...No drain plug You have to turn it upside down to change the oil or siphon it out.It works great though for a cheap mower !

Got an old (like over 30yrs.) MTD 21" rear bagger/mulcher.  B & S engine; 4.5 horse, I think.  Hard to wear out.  Replaced the plastic wheels a few years back with some better quality (but still plastic) ones.  Made in USA.  It has never been a good mulcher and have tried different blades over the years w/o real change.  Plastic throttle controls all busted, but a few hose clamps & such and it still manages to work.  The carb is metal, but the main jet is in the bottom of the fuel bowl, where it tends to clog easily; no huge deal; about once a year I disassemble it, blow out the jet & its good to go.  Knock on wood--I've gotten my $$ worth for that many year of use.

Got an even older mower with a B & S engine; it's either a 3.75 or 4 horse--one of those where the carb mounts on top of the fuel tank and the gasket that seals the carb to the tank also acts as a diaphragm to pump the fuel into the carb.  Setting that gasket just right can be tricky, and the last time I worked on it, I musta done something wrong cause the engine will start if I feed in a  little gas, but then it dies.

The older B & S engine are flat head engine that have lower horse power for same cube inch but more torque . They are last long until B & S start remove the cast iron sleeve so they can sell more engine . I'm only working on one of these engine that is Honda GV150 and still can't make it run good as parts very hard to find and I really don't have much experience on these flat head engine . The newer overhead valve engine are more east to work with

Nothing leaves a nicer cut, then an old vintage 19-21" 2 cycle LawnBoy, especially the old commercial ones, with the orange gas tanks on them. That's all I used to use because the muffler, exhaust from underneath the deck and will dry out the wet grass. Still have three or four of them put away here, from when I had my landscaping business years ago. They used to cut so nice, customers would pay me double to use them, instead of a 36" bunton walk behind lol. I have some modern LawnBoys too, that they started putting B&S 4-cycles on, years later. This was after they did away with there last series of two cycle Duraforce engines. Still have a couple older Honda HR's hiding around too lol. Also have one of my first Stihl BR400 backpack blowers, it's over 25 years old and still going strong lol!
