Last few days, I have shipped 12 parcels of reels and/or parts.

I prefer USPS Priority shipping since they provide a good box, labels, tracking, and some insurance.

Yesterday, I sent out (5) parcels -- New York, Florida, SoCal, North Carolina, and Massachusetts.

The shipping charge for each reel was about $15.70.  Add in bubble wrap, tape, bubble mailers, 20-mile round trip, time, gas, etc. -- it adds up.  On the way home, listening to NPR, they reported that nearly all Postal Services would go up in price starting with the upcoming Holiday Season, then supposedly dropping off about mid-January.

This is the way we are able to offer and get things to members -- I get that.  However, in my case, many of the reels and parts are sent and given to members at little or no charge -- so oftentimes, at the end of the month, I have spent nearly as much as I have received, or sometimes more -- just in shipping.

But, without the services of the USPS, I would not be able to offer anything to members.

So, I am grateful for the shipping process -- and I also understand the expenses and challenges involved.

I use Click-N-Ship, it is cheeper but I have to provide the boxes.

Overall USPS has been good to OK for me.  My new regular mailman, a female, is almost as reliable as our old one, the subs are useless.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

My Avet parts arrived today USPS (shipped yesterday, so pleasant surprise) and appear to all be in order!  I'm kind of with Lee on this one; 14 days to ship out a small ($28) order seems a bit excessive, especially for a company that advertises they manufacture everything in house and source bearings locally (Los Angeles).  I'm willing to cut some slack; after all it's the "busy" season with folks that have reels that need service either from recent trips, or are getting ready to go out on a trip and just "remembered" they never got it serviced last year, so I can see how they are probably slammed.  And with a lot of their body and frame components being machined aluminum, they could very well be dealing with supply chain/tariff issues (stopped by to see a buddy at his brewery yesterday; what they are paying now for aluminum cans vs. last year is insane!).  I guess I'm spoiled by some of the other Ohana on this forum; even though I am on the opposite side of the country my Mystic orders usually arrive within days, and I have had orders from Dawn show up the day after I order them and by no means are they the exception, there are many others as well.  Have never needed any parts from Accurate but given they are only 10 minutes away I can't imagine they would be too bad (and I know a couple fishing buddies that have taken reels in for their "1 year free service" expecting to drop them off and were told "Can you wait 15 minutes, we'll knock this out right now.").  Anyhow, time for me to finish two Avet's that I have been looking at too long.. - john

Quote from: Marlinmate on July 30, 2025, 01:32:20 AMOrdering parts from them is a chore. Hasn't been easy for a few years.

I wish someone would take charge and fix it.

Heck...even the link on the Avet website to order parts for the JX4.6 G2 doesn't work....and it's also for 8 other reels.

And....history repeats itself.  Received my order and it was incomplete.  Sent them an email to see where the other pats were, and have not heard a peep.  Time to call and throw a fit.

Spoke to someone at AVET.   Then I spoke to another person at Avet on the same call.  Then a 3rd person jumped on the call to ask yet again what my name was.   Gave them the order # and my name for 3rd time and explained that I received my order, but it was incomplete and was missing part #62-b.  "I'll ship them out today". Click.   Hung up.

The cost of shipping one reel/item is soon going to put an end to the vintage & used reel market. The cost to ship is getting to be more than a lot of these old reels are actually worth. It's sad to think that a $20 reel ends up being $33+ by the time it gets from one person to another. It's no wonder why so many reels set on eBay for what seems like forever.  ::) Shipping costs are also a good reason to purchase multiple parts at one time rather than just one or two.  ;)
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

Amen Tommy, and I will raise a glass to honor the folks at Mystic for their shipping policy.  There is usually always something useful I can add to an order to get over that $100 thershold in the event I don't hit it with the stuff I need right away. - john
