just googled, couldn't find anything; i know i should just wait for the Penn that will
fit the bill to come into my price range (based on previous sold prices) but besides
Penn, Shimano, Daiwa & sometimes Okuma are parts available for these MIC (made in china) reels?

To be honest - Off Shore Angler is the Bass Pro "house brand".  They are getting these reels built like anyone else, but in my experience they are pretty good and they support them.  Buy one new from BPS I would not been too concerned; used is a whole 'nother kettle of fish - depending on how old it is and if its still supported. - john

Offshore Angler is the Bass Pro Shop brand name for most if not all of their rods/reels. I have two OA spinning reels that I purchased new about 6 years ago. They are both Frigate II reels which is the second tier up. Frigate II 4000 and Frigate II 5000, pretty straight forward all metal spinning reels, with several bearings so they're very smooth, specs are available for each model on their website. There is a cheaper model but the name escapes me as well as the reason why I chose the Frigate II.

I bought them for guests to use instead of my Spinfishers. They haven't seen much use but have performed flawlessly, once I replaced the cheap line that Bass Pro spools them with for free. No more difficult to service than a Penn spinning reel. I bought the 4000 alone in a box so it had instructions, schematic and spool shims. The 5000 was part of a rod/reel combo, no box or papers. I haven't had to replace any parts but I believe you can order parts through Bass Pro Customer Service.
