All of the reels are VG to EX in both operation and appearance.

With the exception of the Alcedo 2C —- which should clean up and service well —- but has a couple extra ounces of dust on it.  But it operates perfectly.

The Cargem is a surprise —- what a solid and exceptionally well made reel.

This one is nearly new.

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Nice haul.  That Conolon should be a two-piece three star rod, likely from the mid-to late '80s; would be a nice panfish or trout rod; green color is very distinctive.

You have it exactly right, Frank —-

2-piece, 3-star, appears nearly or fully as new, perfect cork, pristine guides, green color is a little rarer, green anodized hardware is perfect, superb action on this little 5'5" ultralight.  $95.

Would be perfect with a Cardinal 3, one of the DQ Microlites (265, 110,110N, 1000, 1001), a Penn 714/716, a Daiwa 1000C or Mini-Mite, a Mitchell 308/408, a Shimano 500 Spirex, or other similar quality ultralight reels.

Midway Tommy

I've got one of them in the 5' version. They were labeled "Avocado". Mine's been sitting in the corner for around ten years, mainly because I only fish graphite rods, even with my vintage reels.

Here's a 1976 catalog listing for them:

Fred, is that CarGem about the same size as the Alcedo 2C?

Midway Tommy

The rotor looks a lot larger to me than the 2CS on that tray. The bodies look to be similar size, though.

Yes, Tom is exactly right.

The Super Cargem 55 blue Mariner has the same sized casing as the Alcedo No. 2 —-  but the rotor and spool are larger.

Appears the Cargem has perhaps never been opened since new, or serviced by someone who knew what they were doing. Screws are perfect, not boogered.  The operation is flawless, all functions are smooth and the reel shows very little wear.  Appears to have only been a fresh water reel.  No sign of salt or crud under the spool, or anywhere else on the reel.  All functions are crisp, smooth as butter, and the reel is un-marred.

Funny how these purchases sometimes happen and work out.

A few years ago, a guy contacts me and wants a DAM Quick 265 Microlite.

So I put one together from new parts for him.  He liked it so well he found 6 others on eBay.  Asked me to restore them also.  I did all except for the 330.

Then he calls me and says he would like to sell them all.  So I drove down last Thursday to Fresno.  He wanted $400 for the Quicks.  I offered $300, if he also tossed in the new Fenwick 5.5 CF rod, the Conolon ultralight, and the unused Daiwa 500C with the matching unused correct rod —- for $125 additional.

Then he asked me if I wanted the Cargem, Mitchell 306, Mitchell 308, Olympic ultralight, Penn 5500SS, and the old Alcedo No.2 —- for $60.

I said, sure...

He bought me lunch, and I came back home.

Funny, how these purchases seem to work out.

Man, my upstairs shop is a mess —- need to clean it up today.  Got lots of reels to get rid of —- but can't have the bench and shop clogged up.

The bad thing is, if I got rid of every reel in the shop, it wouldn't even appear to be a drop in the bucket —- to what is left in the various storages.

Great looking reels Fred. Never know what kind of nuggets you'll find in lot purchases/buckets of reels, etc.

OhReely

I like the notched rear of the Cargem rotor. Looks like a convenient way to close the bail after casting. Nice acquisitions Fred.

Got the upper shop squared away today.

New cloth bags came in last week from my screen printer.

New repair tags came in two weeks ago,

New daily planner purchased a week ago for 2026.

Lots of good stuff to do!

Couldn't stand the clutter —- but during building the RV/Truck carport, and heading over to the coast for an Anniversary week —- things just got tossed in and there was no room to move.

It would probably be a bit over-priced for you.  eBay might have some.
