Golden trout, wow are those rare?

Like holding the sunrise in your hand.

Not rare, they are found in a lot of places in CA and they've been planted all over the western US!

Another great day up in the Park.  Landed over 20....

I attended a tenkara fishing workshop in Bishop this past weekend.  There was presentations, hand on skills building and on the water technique evaluations. I had a great time,  met some new friends and learned a few new skills.  I spent an extra day on the east side and did some fishing.  I spent a few hours fishing Bishop creek and bunch of nice sized trout.

On my way home I took an hour detour and headed high up into the east side of the Sequoia National Forest to fish for pure strain Golden trout. I need to catch one of these fish from within the historic native range to qualify for the Ca Heritage Trout Challenge. After a couple of hours I managed to catch a couple small Goldens from a tiny creek in the proper watershed.  They weren't the biggest fish but still very beautiful. I'll definitely be back to the east side again....
