Hello all,

I'm quite familiar with the spartan-like build of the 306, but was wondering how the 306-S compares?

Couldn't find a schematic, but 306-S photos show a side-plate that reads "Ball Bearing"; I take it that's a pinion bearing vs a bushing in the 306?

Any differences in the drag system or are they the same? Is one reel more preferable than the other?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have 306-S but normally on Mitchell reel the S stand for skirted spoon . If it have ball bearings so it should be like 406 . 406 build stronger with ball bearings vs bushing and you can use bushing on 306 to put on 406 and reverse .406 also have stronger handle and drag disc are different . these ball bearings are like bicycle bearings with lots of loose tiny little balls ,be very careful if you open  it up

Yep. The one I was hoping to pick up had a skirted spool. Looked like a cross between a 306 and 906. Someone nabbed it before I had a chance, but good to know about those bearings.
