If vintage means something over 35 yrs old that has been tried, tested, and true—-then the 2nd and 3rd Gen Spinfisher certainly fits the bill.

Like many here, I have fond memories growing up fishing the SS series and sold off my Slammers to pick up these.

Nothing wrong with the modern reels, but fit-and-finish wise...they just don't wear in like the old ones do, year after faithful year.

Gfish

Top of my list for affordable spinners. You want light-weight? Forget about it. I'll take the extra weight any day. These are built like tough 'ol DAM Quicks, only with a better double anti-reverse system.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Very nice!
Wise move.
My favorite/trusted reel series as well.
Love the 430SS.

I have Gen 5 and 6's NIB, and now Penn is  on VII. The old girls just refuse to die.

Chad, how do you fish those reels?  Have you tied the Ultimate Upgrades drags on any?
And you know that you're over the hill
When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill
Doin' the old folks boogie and  boogie we will
'Cause to us the thought is as good as a thrill

Hi Joe,

No I haven't tried to upgrade the drag stack yet; wish I tossed my hat in the ring though when a member on here was making stainless AR upgrades.

Reels get used for chunking bait (sometimes live) mostly from the rocks. Target species are Trevally, Oio (Bonefish), and any other good-eating fish that will bite.

Here are a few places that they frequent:

Been looking at those 420/430 SS reels; they'd be great here for catching bait.

The drags on my slammers had way too steep of a curve for the fishing I do.

I've done the drag upgrade on my 750SS I'm quite happy with it. It's still very adjustable at the lower drag values, which is a shortcoming in many upgraded drag kits.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Thanks for the feedback, good to know Ultimate Upgrades ramps up nice and slow.

Lovely fishing spots!  I imagine they could be quite snaggy.  Any pics of the catch?
