Don't know why I like these little 501's so much but because I have a weakness, I'm going to build another.

Got the Tiburon frame and seat off Ebay/Fleabay. Don't think the seat has seen a reel.

The billet spool from Randy, Vintage Offshore Tackle

And the handle from Ted, Maxed Out.

Ted has a whole reel I'm buying off of him with spare spools. I'll use it's side plates, and being a Ted reel, I already know the guts won't need to be touched.

More to come.

Buy it nice or buy it twice.

That spool and handle look great.

The 501 is my favorite smaller Penn reel.  I realy like my 501N.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Lee, I had to look up 501N.

Look what Google had to say:

In vintage reel communities (like the custom builders on Alan Tani's Fishing Reel Forums), a "501N" often denotes a hybrid custom reel. Anglers combine vintage Penn side plates and internal gears with a single-piece aluminum frame and matching narrow spool manufactured by brands like Tiburon, Accurate, or Pro Challenger.

The "Boss" is everywhere!

The 501N Lee mentioned is likey the 501 XN kits that Tiburon made for Randy Pauly. XN=Xtra Narrow

Yup, I forgot the X.  Mine has Pro Challenger HS gears and SS double dog bridge and one of Ted's blades and handle.  I'm not sure where the SS gearsleeve came from.  It is like a downscaled 349.
