I've upgraded the drag on some old Penn international 30s, and one of the drag covers seems to have lost its integrity. It's the model where it clips into place rather than screwed into the spool. Sometimes it holds for a few seconds but the spring eventually pushes the cover off. Do I just need a new drag cover part or is there something I can do with current one to make it stay?

I am not sure on this reel but I think you can use it without the cover?

It looks like the 156-30 drag covers are out of stock at Mystic.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Over time you need to flatten the rim with a metal mallet, otherwise it wont catch..

Flatten the three tabs or the entire rim? I actually already tried that but can't seem to get it where it needs to be.

I might be able to use it without the cover but I'd be afraid of stuff getting into the drag.

I usually try the tabs first, if that doesn't work I do the rim as well.

Have you ever run into one that you couldn't get to stay and if so what was the alternative?
