I have seen the tutorial about re-building this reel, and found it extremely helpful. I have decided I am going to replace the drag in mine, but I am still confused about what I need to order. I am going to go with the ht-100 system recommended in the tutorial. It says to use 5 of the ht-100 #6-113h, and one ht-100 #6-855. Is there a drag kit I can order with all these, or do I need to purchase them individually? Also, where do I even go to order them? Finally, how do I stack them? I assumed that 2 penn washers would replace 1 daiwa, but with 5 washers that means 1 is without a pair. Thanks in advance for the advice, this is a sweet site and I have learned a ton already.

No drag kit available, but you can order them individually from this web site:

There is a little drop down menu where you must select your reel model.  The Daiwa won't be listed, so just select any reel.  It's OK.

Stack the washers as Alan says in his tutorial.  Doubled up HT100 washers are OK; they work fine and also act as spacers to fill up excess space.  Metal turning against metal, such as a keyed washer turning against an eared washer is a no-no.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

We are currently working on a 5+1 drag set, including metal washers if you can wait a month.

Like I've been saying, a 5+1 drag stack is easy. Order 2 keyed washers, and one eared washer from Daiwa, and 5 #41 washers from Dawn. Ream out the center of the #41's to match the Daiwa washers and discard the thick metal Daiwa washer. Use the washer of your choice under the main gear and assemble the reel. Easy.

I struck a small hiccup with the drag conversion using the Penn washers (re rebuild tutorial) in that the drag star fouled the spool end float cap. Easy fix was to fit a  a stainless washer, filed to suit, in between the spacer tube and the drag stack. Planning on getting a longer spacer machined up  ::).

Anthony.

Thanks for the help guys. @Bryan, I have a fishing trip coming up on Saturday, so I didn't have time to wait for the new drag you guys are building or else I most certainly would have ordered one. I went ahead and ordered the ht-100 washers from the tutorial. @Stuck, is there a way to just use one of the washers from my old drag to alleviate that problem? Thanks again.

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

I didn't try that as I thought that the original washers would have been too thick and made the drag stack to thick to fit inside the gear. From memory the stainless washer was only about 1 or 1.2mm thick. Don't panic about it, you may not even strike the problem.

Anthony.
