How do you guys, or do you protect the surface of your spools from corrosion under the line?  Obviously I wouldnt use grease or oil.  I was thinking maybe Johnson wax?

Actually, the best thing is an oil, Corrosion-X. Wipe on a liberal amount. Let it soak in for a few minutes, then wipe off the excess. It won't harm line and soaks into the spool. Some people also use car wax, but I've had good luck with Corrosion-X. I also clean my spectra: Wind it from one reel to another through a wet rag. You'll be reversing the spectra and cleaning it at the same time.

I'm with AK I light wipe down with Corrosion-X and then I spool up. As far as spectra goes it does not absorb water, some can cling to the weave and other things can get on the line like fish blood, slime and other stuff but for me on spools without any scratches and having spectra on for years I have not seen any corrosion yet without washing my spectra.

Johnsons Paste Wax kept water off gun barrels, including salt water,  in 168" of anual rain but I think Corsion-X would be better for reels.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

That is what made me think of Johnson Wax.  I have always used in on my shotguns for duck and geese.  Never failed me.

CorrosionX or pure carnuba wax.  For the wax, best if applied if reel is on a line winding machine. Can spread and wipe with the machine and get the spool and wax warm then apply another few coats. It goes on in microns so the more layers the better. Just like when I used to detail cars. Total of 15 layers of wax but would have a mirror shine for a year without re-waxing. .
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Every spool I ever protected with corrosion X ended up with corrosion under the spectra after the season. I now use a fine carnuba car wax, do it multiple times, no more problem.

I like boeshield, spray it on, let it dry, buff out a little.
