What year did they stop making the 117l? I just purchased an older one with a white handle if that means anything.Does anyone know about how old this reel is?The bearings are the newer school bearings on both sides no adjustment.I will have it apart in a few days to but in cals and carbontex and to check things out.It looks almost unused. Also are the drag washers scott sells carbontex ?Are the ones from smooth drag any different or better?Sorry for all the questions im trying to learn man!Got to but some sharks on the beach!!!

The last year that the 117 was in production was 2007, in 2012 the 117 went back in prduction.
One of my catalogs from the mid 80's is  showing the torpedo handle, so it had to be after that, but not sure.
Don't depend on color alone, some change those handles along the way.
About the bearings, with the information that I have, I can only go back to1938. The 117 had bearings at that time.
About the drags, you could go with Smooth Drags or Scott's, they will both do.
If you want to bring it up a notch, try this. This one might be the only one around, make yours the second ;)

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Sal the weather is warming up so I will be spending some time at my work bench.  Did you ever do a template for the cut on the side plate of a 9/0 so that I can put in the second dog?  I got the 9/0 which is in really good condition from BMitch.  Dom
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

No template Dominick, I have to keep it a secret ;D. Does your plate have bearings or bushings? I have one already made but it takes bushings.
If you're not confortable doing it, send me the plate and I'll do it for you.
Later buddy.
