I've recently started going down to my local beach for a few early morning casts. I actually was only expecting to catch the sun rise as there is only 6ft of water where I am casting. To my surprise there are snapper there!

Here is a 5 pound specimen I landed just as the sun was peaking over the hill.

What were you throwing?  You've got rocks there, which means you have crabs and other small baits.  There are probably more predators around than you think.  You just have to figure out when they come in to feed.

Nice work Joe - that's the way to start your day!
Good luck tomorrow ;)

Great catch Joe. What rig did you use?

Great catch Joe. What rig did you use?

I was just casting out whole pilchards on a 2 hook rig with no sinker. The max I could get it out was about 50m (150 ft) due to the lack of weight.

I am going to have another go this Saturday (early morning) and am considering using a breakaway sinker casting rig for a bit more distance. Can't beat the fight though when there is no sinker involved.

Fly lining bait is and always will be my favorite type of bait fishing. It is just so nice to have nothing but your rig bait and hooks.

Well said...... I couldn't agree more!

Hi all, here's a couple of pics from last weekend at my new local spot. I am still amazed you get fish like this in such shallow water.

A good kingy even made a brief appearance swimming right passed our feet, and unfortunately straight past my live bait without even a second look. Well I guess that's fishing! Was still a great morning.
