Who knows the pros and cons and the location of Calcutta poles for gaffs?

Bryan Young

Are you referring to a pole gaff using Calcutta bamboo?
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Keta

They are strong and easy to work on but they tend to rot.    Make sure it's Calcutta, it's not your average bamboo.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

I have read about two suppliers of Calcutta that is almost solid in CA. Shipping would require cutting to save cost and then splice back together. I was thinking of a screw splice like a pool cue.

I build calcutta gaffs though I'm fortunate my local tackle shop carries them. Good stuff very strong and easy to work with. They do dry rot over time but the local captains here tell me they soak them for a few days in the off season to prolong their life.

How long of a piece were you looking to get?

Bryan Young

There's gotta be someone in Florida that sells Calcutta Bamboo.
