Reel Repair by Alan Tani

Thanks to contributions from friend and local reel guru Keith Rawson (Ocean Master) and Alan, I finished my Penn 180 Project last night with pretty amazing results: Pulled a measured 15 pounds of drag on my scale and 12 1/2 on Keith's. Mods include a Tiburon topless aluminum frame and rod clamp, steel main and stainless steel pinion gears from a Penn 350 Level Line, Stainless Penn 155 gear sleeve, pin and A/R dog (Tani), Penn HT-100 3+1 drag stack, custom 3 position SS handle blank and aluminum jigging knob. Couldn't be happier with the finished product. Thanks to Alan, Keith and all of you on this page that shared your wisdom.

That's the fourth I've seen lately. They are such cool little reels. I caught a nice YT on a 27 spooled w/40 braid, wouldn't want to go fishing without one of these.

Which # Tib frame is that & what'd you spool it with?

Just went to https://www.mysticparts.com/PennParts/Penn350M.aspx, and whadda-ya-know, there it is...the 5-155 main AND 13-200 pinion listed on the same page for the same reel.

It's too bad that info had not proliferated over to the Monofil and Baymaster pages. Would have completed my 27 in 2009 rather than 2013 after a lot of trial and error...

Mine are a 160 and a 25, didn't go all out with the Tib kit, but they do have Bryan's kits and stainless sleeves. Not that they need it, but you know how that is ...thanks for sharing.

Correction, no 5+1 drag stack on these 155 gears, I was thinking my 100's.
These have the 3+1 as yours, plus the 29L-100, stainless sleeves and dogs.
stand and posts, I had laying around.

Joe brought it over and it's really cool b/c it's so small. I found the fine thread SS gear sleeve and larger star for the reel Joe. I had 4 of them the whole time we were looking..!

Sweet job, I reckon I will be looking at doing one of these soon. Old School cool for sure!
