Two years ago we took our first family vacation to the Northwest US coast and stayed in Crescent City, CA for a week. It was fabulous! In a house on the cliff. Hiking the redwoods, exploring beaches, hiking up Fern Canyon filmed in Jurassic Park II .  So much fun we did it again last year except we stayed in Brookings, OR just minutes north of Crescent City. Both were very memorable vacations.

Each day I saw the Charter boats parked right out in front of our cliffside house plus kayak anglers here and there. I got so envious I drove to the marina to check out the action.

ALL BOATS BOOKED SOLID for the entire week we were there. The Chetco River King Salmon run was in full swing.   waaaahhhh! So the sunset shots are looking northwest right over the mouth of the river as it enters the ocean. Sunset dreams of big slivery kings.

We did a lot of tide pooling and beach combing. One of my girls found a golfball sized agate!  All the other agates found were pea sized up to pinto bean.  Good family times.

Steve-O It looks like the attack of the giant crab.   ;D :D ;D Thanks for sharing.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Great photos>

About 40 years ago one of my co-workers retired (we both lived and worked in the Fresno, CA area).  After retirement he would live in a trailer in Crescent City for 3 or 4 months during the summer.  He had a boat and would fish and crab almost everyday.  I tried to visit him for a week each summer.  We had some great times.  I remember that almost every trip we would go to Brookings--usually for something for the boat.  It would be overcast and cold in Crescent City and 40 miles away in Brookings, it would be sunny, clear and warm in Bookings.  When Jerry finally decided to move to the area, he chose Brookings and lived there for the next 25 years and loved it!! :D
