Reel Repair by Alan Tani

 I ran across this on Craigslist. http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/spo/4709438532.html It looked pretty cool but I wondered how you would keep it from tarnishing. Someone had a lot of free time, even the clicker button is polished 

Didn't someone here do that?  I recall seeing something posted...I wonder if I can find it.

That is gorgeous and well worth the money, I might consider it. That would make a great centerpiece on a shelf, I'm sure we won't find a better looking reel.
He put it a lot of work on that reel.

I saw that a couple weeks ago on Craigslist,  looks cool but i figured i would ruin it after a fishing trip or two.

That reel would only be eye candy. Still, cool reel to own though.

Wonder what he used to remove the chrome plating ?

I used a battery charger, 2 lead plates and a sulphuric acid solution then reversed the polarity of a simple electroplating type system to remove gold in the NAVY...I would guess you could do chrome & nickle the same way...It's amazing what a 12 pack and a bunch of yahoo's can do  don't remember if there was a specific % of acid and water we used but it worked...6amp charger from NAPA

Yeah, seems familiar to me too. Someone posted a link to this/similar reel for sale somewhere, but the responses were mostly about how ugly, ghastly and blasphemous it was. (me, i don't mind it at all)

   If you like that one, then ya might like this one, too. It says the chrome was removed and a new brass plating was added.
I've seen either this reel or another that looks just like it, chang hands on ebay about 3 times, but don't know why.
