Fished the Manasquan inlet today, wind was E- S/E and didn't let up,fishing was 0 but It was a day out for me and Ruth. And it's my Birthday so still waiting for a gift from Ruth. ;D ::)
Happy birthday Joe.  Did you fish from the inlet wall?  Did you fish slack tide?  The wind and current can be murder there.  Dominick

I was on the Manasquan side at the very end of the walk where it turns, the tide was coming in about 1-1/2 hours to High tide. Current wasn't a problem, the wind was a pain. To tell ya the truth we should have been on the Pt side where the wind was working with you. No one was doing anything though on either side. just a slow day, I don't think the fish are here in any numbers and there not very active. I like the Raritian much better.

Joe my other friend Joe said they were catching small stripers and big blues to 20lbs at the inlet. It looks like you caught a bad day.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Yes it was no doubt about it. We just have to hit it every chance we get. Did he mention what day? Trouble for us is, we are pretty busy cleaning up the yard from winter and getting things ready for selling our home here, so we have to juggle our time. But both of us would rather be fishing. 8)

Well a "man gotta due wat a man gotta due."  (said with a Jersey accent)  I know what you mean.  I planned on a Mexico trip first week of June but a business transaction is keeping me here.  I'll go when the deal closes.  Dominick

We plan on going tomorrow morning, the weather hasn't been that great cloudy and a cold front is coming in for tomorrow and possible showers. Today the wind was still out of the E-S/E, we need a good W wind.

Reel - If you want Blues from shore then Union beach is the place - get bunker

Been killing them there all week.

Likely very crowded this weekend so get there super early  - best bite is gonna be 1st light or dusk

Reel 224

Thanks Cap but blues are not my targeted fish, I'm targeting strippers. I hate crowds, not that I'm anti social, just don't like dealing with lots of people trying to fish in the same spot.

Soon if not already the bass will be moving up the Hudson to spawn. I have had good results fishing south of the Naval station and working my way past the mouth of the narrows bridge. Conditions , tide and wind direction are all important here, if you hit just it right you can have a great day

Reel 224

Yes I know how great that area is this time of year, I am just land locked because of my handy cap, so I try to hit spots that are within a close proximity of my vehicle and where I can set up a portable chair to sit on when my legs need a rest. Walking and standing for any length of time is out for me anymore. I just refuse to fall prey to my afflictions, I love salt water fishing and so does my wife, we do our best to get out when ever possible.

As a vet you should check with the visitors desk at the Earl navel depot. I know they had a program to issue permits to fish that long pier during certain times of day available to veterans and their spouses only. I know they have strict rules but if they can check your service record they do allow it and it is limited . The fishing off the end of that pier has got to be good anyway its worth inquiring about

Ill check Doug, I used to fish with a buddy of mine who worked there for 25 years and then I was told only employes were allowed to fish there, but maybe things have changed. Since I'm a DAV my wife has mentioned a few times that I look in to it. It is great fishing there but we were only allowed on the pier as far as midway and not were the ships were moored when I fished with my buddy.

Its guess that the depot and the pier are still used to supply ordnance to navel ships . You can see why the pier is so far out from land just incase of a mishap. Even if you can only fish half way to the end of the pier you will be right at the mouth of the Raritan river

Reel 224

I called operations a few minutes ago and they are going to contact me Monday for the information that I will need to have to get on the pier, or not. We will see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the heads up.
