Hi Guys,

on the Daiwa Sealine SHV and SL..SH "Slosh" reels there is, by design, a tooth "missing" from the anti-reverse ratchet.

Does anyone know what the purpose of this "feature" is?

With what seems to be a missing tooth in the rachet, this is created so that, for the auto-engage freatures on other reels, will not engage the spool at certain points on the handle rotation, which is usually when you are going from top of the reel rotating it downward.

I've always wondered about that. My guess was the "dead tooth" would allow an extra split second for the dog to engage incase a fish takes off like a rocket before slamming it in gear. That or one less tooth = lower costs.

Weird design, I wonder if the dog has failed in those. That handle would really get you by surprise, if lined up just right.
