I saw a thread elsewhere that stated that the Quick 330N cannot switch from left to right, whereas the 330 can. Is this correct?
What about the 440 and 550 series vs "N" models w/r to switching left to right?
What is the build difference between the newer "N" models vs the original ..did they make real improvements or did they cheapen the build?
I know that the spools are typically not compatible.

OT- I am shopping on eBay for prime 440 and was wondering what kind of paint makes that crackled black finish ...is it readily available for touchup?

Fred's your man for this one ;)

You can find black crackle paint at a good hardware store. After spraying it has to be baked to get the crackle.
Worked well for a Quick that peeled in the sonic bath.

I have a clean 440 posted for sale here. If you want pics I can email.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

I have had both, a 330 and a 330n. They both work great but I liked the feel of the 330n more, just feels more refined. It has many nice features that I prefer over my old 1st gen Spinfishers, especially the anti reverse setup. In the end I sold the 330 and hotrodded the 330n, passed it on to my brother last Christmas and it is his go to sabiki reel, still going strong.

Correct -- all 7 of the Finessa Series are ambidextrous -- 110, 220, 221, 330, 331, 440, 550

Of the "N" series -- 110N, 220N, 330N, 331N, 440N, 441N, 550N -- the (2) high speed versions -- 331N & 441N are switchable from left to right.

Answered above.

Number 2.

Correct -- matter of fact, if trying to put a older Finessa spool on an N series reel -- the spool will never come off without cutting some parts.

The original paint is not readily available.  It is a crinkle finish requiring heat to bake and finish it off.  Most touch up jobs will show somewhat -- unless one does a complete strip, dip, and repaint with modern paints.  These old paints with a wrinkle/crinkle finish are very similar, or the same as the paint used on old electronic and radio equipment in the 50s.  Might be a source there from some of the restorer sites that do old typewriters, sound equipment, electronic instruments, military equipment, etc.

This thread prompted my to look at my Quicks this morning.  I have a few XXXN's, as well as a Quick 4000, that proudly proclaims on the top of the spool "Disc Brake Asbestos".  Weird.
