Remember this dreadful eyesore?

Well, with some targeted bucks and a little help from my friends --Fred, Randy, Mo at Scott's-- she lives again!  :D

Now, if I could only figure out how to do this to myself...!   ::)   ;)   ;D

Don't we all.  Maybe another reason we refurbish the oldies.  Good job on Lazarus.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Thanks, guys... I couldn't let her die, so it was a true labor of love.  :)

Fred, I used most of the internals (except for what I got from you.) I refurbished the handle-side bearing and the top-hat collar, too. I had some leftover 114H parts, so whatever else I needed I bought either from Scott's or eBay. Worked out pretty nicely!   ;)

Incredible transformation.
It's amazing what a little love( and some cash) can do for a reel.
Nice Job Aiala!

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.-Sal

You've done an excellent job on that reel Aiala - can you tell me what's the brass screw for by the lever in the 1st pic ?

Rgds

Matt, evidently a previous owner had somehow broken off the eccentric jack's support post, and drilled a screw into there as a substitute; what's known here in the States as "MacGuyvering" a problem, after an old tv show. I believe our resident big-reel expert Mr. Shark has done something similar, but with infinitely more finesse.   :)

Aiala...Great Job!

That through-plate bolt as a replacement for the broken tab seems to be a common practice.  I have come across at least 6 or 8 of the 12/0 and 14/0s with this repair.  Believe it or not another McGovern fix that allows the reel to continue to function with a broken tab, is to pinch the jack tabs so they stay married to the eccentric.  Though this results in a bit of wobble, and not a perfect linear movement of the jack and yoke, it will allow the reel to shift in andifferent out of gear, and remain positively engaged.  Not a recommended fix, and not commonplace, but easy and cheaper then a new sideplate.
Hope springs eternal
for the consumate fishermen.

Very nice! Looks like you kept the sideplates and replaced everything shiny!

Thanks, Mark. I rescued the tail plate, but the handle-side plate went into the recycle bin. And yeah, lots of new shiny stuff!   :D

Kinda like I've had this axe for 40 years, replaced the head twice and the handle 3 times but it's the same axe.
