Pic taken just south of Lizard Island in the Coral Sea. A near complete circle rainbow directly above our boat at around midday.

It's called a sun halo I believe.  Ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.

I think this is correct. I've seen it many times around the moon, especially on a very clear, winter evening, but this is the first time I've seen this with the sun.

They're called 'Sun Dogs' here in BC are are relatively common.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.
