As promised I am submitting some pictures in a step by step process of a project that I finished recently.  I was pleased with the results.  I now have a reel that money cant buy, a Specialized tool for trolling for king salmon in an area where I live.   See the below Pics.

this is the model that I used for the base of the project. Its a mooching reel, made in China, marketed as a Quantum MR5000, an all aluminum 4.5 inch reel.  So I took it and ran with it.   lets see.

the new model is 5.5 inch spool, as shown.

was it worth it?  I dunno?  Money cant buy everything in this world!

Very nice job Gary, at the rate you're going, I'll be seeing the Gary reel soon ;D.
Of course it was worth it, personal satisfaction is worth more than money, that's why it usually cost us a lot to get it. ;D
Don't drop that reel, I want to fish it when I finally come up one day.
Keep it up buddy.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Gary... Great stuff!

For your type of fishing what advantage did you gain converting the 4" reel to a 5" reel?

Thanks,

Steve

The Reel holds more line & you retrieve more line per turn of the handle. At least he has an Anti Reverse. My Sidewinder is direct drive & is made of Derlin. You put pressure on the spool with your fingers.

I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
