I just put this together for my grandson. He is 14 years old and a fishing fool and has won a couple of junior angler tournaments already. Tuna, White Marlin, and Red Snapper. Thursday I bought a paralyzer tip for my pole spear and gave it to him to use under our dock. Not much later he comes in with an 18" Black Snapper (Mangrove).

The reel has all the goodies sold on here and was a breeze to put together. There is too much in/out play on the gear sleeve. I'll fix that later. I'll have to try different sleeves because if I shim under the sleeve the dogs will have less than half contact.

absolute a beautiful reel, envy on your all-aftermarket parts on it.

wondering how many parts on that reel are still Penn brand  ;D ;D
not the plates
not the gears
not the frame
not the dogs
etc, etc

we should start calling some reels ATF113h, ATF114h, and so on...

I like it!
Keep in mind Alex, its design is still Penn, the rest is easy.

Nice Job Keith!
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Beautiful reel! He's gonna be one happy boy. That sleeve must really be loose if shimming leaves less than half contact on the dogs. Let us know how it comes out.

The 10 tooth sleeves had to much play. The standard 8 tooth is fine and it's all good now. I'm using Alan Chui's double dog bridge where the dogs are already thinner than the thickness of the sleeve ratchet. If I shim under the sleeve the ratchet would be too high.

Hey Handi,
You might already know this, but switching to a stock 8 tooth ratchet will make those double dogs "alternating" rather than "simultaneous". I think I'd prefer the alternating...it should tighten up that handle backplay.  8)

Looking Good Keith! I envy your Homestead. Very Nice place.
Keep living that dream brother.

Where I live is a beautiful place until the hurricanes come calling..!!

Fishing off the dock has been on fire. Plenty of Mangrove's under the dock if you can tease them them out. Huge Speckled Trout at night and Redfish during the day. Also some smaller Tarpon show up when your not ready.

My grandson doesn't know how lucky he is to grow up here. I grew up in town and had to hitch hike to the Pensacola beach pier to fish. Cut off jeans and no shoes back then. I would fish all day, sell some of my catch, and clean out the restaurant below for a hamburger and coke.

Keith, I lived in Orlando back in the late 50's early 60's with my family. I know exactly what you mean.

He's gonna love that reel!

Neat stories from Grandpa to go with a great reel; love these small tales of legacy.  Well done Keith.

I just put together a 113H narrow with the same parts, and the 10 tooth had a lot of end play in mine too. After swapping  one 10 tooth sleeve for another, there was less end play, and I went with that. But, if you were to try to reduce the end play without shimming under the sleeve, how would you go about it?
Give a man a fish and he will have fish for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Hi there,

Is it possible that you can send me back that 10 tooth sleeve back and let me check it? I can replace it as well.
