My girlfriend loves estate sales, she buys little trinkets and such. I go along and I am always looking for Penn reels. I was trying to bargain for a Penn No. 85 the other day and passed up on it. It got me thinking, what are some reels to keep an eye out for? Not just for me, but I would offer any of my finds to members looking for certain reels. Let me know what you guys think.

The Penn 1/0 and 2/0 black reels are getting scarce.

And the Long Beach 61-2-3 models as well. The 1/0 and 2/0 Senators (pre-1950) and the low-number Long Beaches have been on my list for almost a year.... hen's teeth, I tell ya.

I look for Accurates being offered at what the husband told his wife he paid for them.

Penn 9/0, 12/0, 14/0, 16/0, 501, 506, 145, 146, 704, 706, 714, 716. Any Penn SS reels. Anything made by Newell. Shimano stradics, saragosas, baitrunners. Daiwa saltists.

Anything big or gold. Internationals and Tiagras. However, not all are worth what you think they are. Older single speeds can be worth only a few hundred.

Anything interesting. Ideally with an obvious fault that makes it seem to be worth nothing.

Latest scores included an International II 80S for $60 (incredibly no major faults) and a bag containing 2 Shimano Toriums, a SL20SH, an Omoto VS10 and a Speedmaster also for $60.
Also a TLD25 with a stripped drag cam for a box of beer.

I used to be in a constant state of improvement.  Now I'm in a constant state of renovation.

That's just money there.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

I always check out the Mag Power 970s, 980s, and 990s... even though I have 'em all and don't need more.  ::)

Also, for some reason the 259 Long Beach strikes my fancy... nothing glamorous, it's just a nifty little reel.

And, of course, the old Penn 704 greenie spinners... they're a blast from the past, tough and beautiful.  :)

I don't suffer from insanity... I enjoy every minute of it!  :D
