reminds me when I first took my grandson Jesse crabing, Jesse 5 years old, with my cousin Ken, in Kens 14ft tinny, firstly Jesse had his pocket knife at our place, I told him as he would be cuting  the bait, he would have to learn how to sharpen his knife, then we headed of to meet up with Ken, as Ken navigated the dingy, Jesse and I baited the drop nets, we were using cattle pleens so Jesse found cuting them into strip managable, we place the drop nets in the water, starting from the centre of the esturary to wards the bank, so that when we get 2 netts side by side, with more than 1 crab in it, then that is the best depth to place the nets for the next run, as we go back towards the first net we placed in the water, ken lets Jesse stear the dingy, much to Jesses excitement, as we start geting crabs, we train Jesse to hold the crabs firmly by the but of the flipper, after getting our quoter, home we go to cook the and feast, after I put Jesse into granmars bed, granma comes home 2am from work, Jesse wakes for a nature call, jumps back into bed with granma, she said, did you have fun Jesse, Jesse replys, yes sure did granma, just never going to forget it, so thems become real special times ay, cheers donnyboat.

Thanks everyone for the great comments.  As grandparents were are given the honor, time, and patience to teach little ones things that their parent may not have the time to teach.

I was 4 or 5, cluching a plastic zebco spincaster w/ a 4' rod molded right on to it, sittin in a 12ft. row boat on Forest lake, Minnisota, pestering my dad n' uncle w/ endless questions about the fish and lake. This is my first recollection of a beggining obsession. We got skunked that day, but I didn' t wanna quit.
My parents told me years latter that when it came to fishing, I was diffrent than friends, brothers, cousins, 'cause I was never bored by it, and I's always tryin diffrent techniques-anything to get even just a bite.
I'm still that way today, bein on, in, er next to the water, success or not, is like bein with an old familiar lover.
Gotta love my parents, aunts n' uncles for startin me out on it...
