I have over 40 reels to go thru from one Capt.

I thought I would show this 9/0 reel. He uses it for Grouper fishing with 200lb braid and a locked down drag. The drag is stock greased Carbontex.

It locked up him while in use. The pinion gear was the fault. Now it takes allot to do this to a 115 pinion gear.

The Delrin under gear and under star washers were just fine after the one season. No imprints on the under gear washer. I punch them 9/16x1 1/8.

No other issues with the reel.

It takes a lot of force to get to that. I have done it  on a Jigmaster and a 9/0, both with stock pinions during my tests.

Is that the heat treated pinion from Alan?

The inner hole on the washer on the right is oval, just out of curiousity is the sleeve a stainless steel sleeve ? That would do it on those softer washers.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Hope springs eternal
for the consumate fishermen.

It has the stock bronze gears and gear sleeve along with stock Carbontex drag set.

The flatter Delrin washer was under the gear. The one on the right was under the star. I think the angle of the picture shows one out of round but it's not.

No other issues.

It's back together with a Motive drag Insert with a set of stock steel gears. The bronze main gear looks fine.
