I have a bunch of 349 parts reels and will soon have one of Tom's kits but here is a few of my working 349's.

A 349 5+1 drag stack.

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Wow Lee,  that's a bunch of 349s .  Seemed like you said once that you preferred them to the 4/0 for halibut fishing 🎣.   I was gifted my first one ☝️ by Dominick. Took it apart as soon as I got home.  Its going to be tested this summer.  I prefer the narrow reels for most fish 🐟.
What type of drag package is planned with a new frame?   Just wondering?  Also will the 113h gearsleeve fit? Love to know.   Thanks 🙏

The 113H gear sleeve ratchet is smaller in diameter but it works.  A stock length 15-349 works with a 113H gear sleeve but one of the 349 MKII dogs are a bit longer and I feel works better.  Sometimes they need to be filed to fit.  I have a MKII AR dog with your name on it.

The CC reel will have either a 7+1 or 5+1 349H drag stack, depending on what donor reel I use.  I should have more washers cut but I do not know when.   If anyone wants to build a low speed 349 I have a few sets left.

Nice stand of reels, Lee. My wife says a "few" is three. I like your definition a lot better.  ;D

I like those reels, I have a 49 but no 349. I suspect I'll have one before it's over...LOL. Great stable Lee! 8)

I have more parts reels collected over the years to keep my working reels in good shape, most have warped spools.

As soon as I finish my left hand 349 I will show my collection. I also have a very good supply of new parts. Outer rings are no more that I can tell. Nothing anywhere I have checked every day for the last year.

So what size ?   Are they 4/0 ?  If so I'm going on a mission to find one of these narrow reels. Why arent they still made ? They look extremely useful... Jeff

They have guts similar to the 113H but bigger gears and different AR dog, the OD is close to a 114H and the width is the same as a 501 Jigmaster.

I have a lightly used cast 349 spool that spins perfect if you want it for your parts pile

Yes, If I do not use it I can find a good home for it.  They sure are heavy.

Oh dang dont use a good for parts.

Most of my parts reels had spread spools from mono, even the heavy cast bronze ones could be damaged by hauling a 100# plus fish up from 200'-300' with mono.  My reels had Dacron when I lived in Alaska, now some still have Dacron but most have a bit of it on the spools topped with Spectra.   I did pick up a pair at a garage sale in Methford, OR that were green from corrosion but had good spools, all 4 rings on both were cracked.

Good rings and bearings are the hardest to find parts now, NOS rings are made out of unobtanium.  I have considered paying big $ to have a few re-chromed.

I just started playing with a reel that seems to be less common than the 349, the Post 90 Seaboy 185 and 190.  They use a Jigmaster drag washers so there are things that can be done to up the drag on these reels.  The 190 holds enough line to be a mid depth Pacific halibut reel and is same size as a 66 with 3.5:1 gearing.  Ted sent me a stronger stand for the 185 (thank you again Ted, the stand is also made of unobtaniun) and I picked up a much more common 30-66 one for the 190.

Lee,

Dominick had powder coated rings on the Tank at one point and Sal has some sweet ones also. Maybe there's a resource for that cheaper than chroming? The other point is, prep on re-chrome needs to be flawless or you just have a shinier scratch. powder coating can cover some "experience; Sal said his rings were in rough shape going in.
