Ive taken my friend Ken quite a few times fishing as he cant operate his boat since his health issues keep him from walking much.
Butt he doesent really want to stay home, so.  Here is a video of the fun we had.  I was afraid he hurt himself here butt he just laughed it off.   I hope he gets better soon.   Wish and Hope. ;) ;)

Gary that was the best harpoon work yet.  Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

It is impressive to see how Gary has all of the tools of the trade clearly at hand and organized —

And the true sign of a professional — every tool, line, weight, harpoon has a place to be stowed away immediately — ready for the next fish — no clutter — cool & calm — no wasted amateur hour mistakes.

Lots of experience, and he makes it look easy — it isn't.  Lots of folks are injured while halibut fishing.  They are a very strong and muscular fish that must be handled in an orderly and safe fashion.

They can break a wrist, ankle, or knock a person over against something blunt or against sharp edges.

If you are going to keep them — they need to be dead when brought on board.  Even smaller 25 or 35 pounders can cause a lot of havoc on a slippery deck in medium seas.

Thanks for showing us how it's done, Gary!

Best,

Fred

Just wondering. It looks like after the fish was harpooned, rope through the mouth out the gill plate, hooks removed, the cutting of some gills and then the fall. I'm glad no one was hurt. But, how did that fish get away? Did one of the snaps on the rope through the mouth not get hooked fully and come open or was that rope not attached to something?

That fish looked as close to going home to get flitted as any other fish I have seen.

I know stuff happens but the fall didn't look like that fish should of been lost. What am I missing? And yes many times I do miss seeing things.

Did they lose the fish?
???  Did you watch the video?   ??? Dominick

I wouldn't comment if I hadn't. Not sure what the heck happened. At the end after all the ropes and harpoon and clips and yada yada yada I found it hard to believe fish could have been dropped, yet did not see it any more.

It was already tied off to the rail. Just bleeding out under water for a bit.

Always entertaining,Gary. The way you move around looks as you've been doing this for some time.😁
I'm glad Ken was ok.
I always enjoy your videos, thank you!

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Thanks for the kind words and questions,  as i,m an amateur video guy ive got lots to learn,   butt i,m open for some hints, and advise.   butt remember i,m sensative :D.
The fish was tied off with a looped line and a snap and bled overboard.  the scene got interesting when we tried to pull the fish in.    As Ken has only one good leg we both pulled hard to get it up and when it went over center it justupset our balance and thats what may have been done poorly.    Butt this is live.   i landed on Ken and the chair was crumpled. :)
There is lots going on here. and luckily i get excited too.  usually i,m wearing the go pro om me head.  makes it jumpy, butt frees up my hands as i,m also the deckhand.   Thanks .   More soon.
;) ::)

I.m trying anew way to send a picture here.  this is only a test.?
