Ok....in the last four months I've torn down, and serviced EVERY reel I own and I have run out of reels....what's next? ;D
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

You have only passed the first step.  Now you ask all your friends if they want their reels serviced.  When you have completed servicing all your friends reels, you go on ebay and start collecting reels.  At first you just buy anything then you start looking for the good stuff, eventually your wife starts nagging you about all the time you spend on the Alan Tani site and in the garage working on reels.  Then you start studying on ways to modify the reels that you have.  It never ends until you take the big dirt nap.  You are doomed bwahahahaha.   Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Time to buy more reels ;)
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

alantani

by this time, i had boxes of reels showing up at my doorstep...   ;D
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

You guys slay me with your comments; doomed, devorce, big dirt nap, etc. ;D ;D ;D

Soon you rig up a timer and pulley to a Big Penn and the clicker becomes your alarm clock. You change your dogs name to Saltiga. Your wife says you never take me out to dinner so you take her to the cafe at Bass Pro. Soon the neighborhood kids start calling you Quint and asking if you will catch fish for them. Yawl know me. Know how I earn a livin. Ill catch this bird for you, but it aint gonna be easy. Bad fish. Soon you add a little vanilla extract to carb cleaner and call it your secret after shave lotion.

Not sure if an intervention is needed or not....they say the first step is to admit you have a problem.....nope...don't see one here....besides it keeps me home during the evenings....and  a lot cheaper than a DUI....

By the way found a great way to test the drags on my 114HLW.....mounted it on a 5'6" all roller guide rod.....secured the butt to a fighting belt.....tied the end to my 82lb. 11 year old's belt and had him run at full power.....couldn't quite stop him...but sure wore him out....then the 94lb. 13yo stepped up and i put him to work....would have got the 15 yo but he's been doing football workouts and the reel was getting pretty warm by that time....but what a difference greased drags make....the drag stayed smooth the whole time, but seemed to get tighter as they heated up.

Thanks for all the encouragement....i think it's time to check EBAY again.....bwahahahaha.... ;D

Now you can start doing upgrades to your reels. I'm sure you've done the greased date already, but have you gotten into the expensive game of functional and cosmetic upgrades? If not, I recommend jvariance/ tub/ or accurate frames, stainless gears, double dogs, stainless sleeves, custom handles, etc.
When you finish that you can move onto powder coating and anodizing :o
This stuff is endless!
Ps- go down to your local marina and start asking charter capt's if they need reel work... Once word of mouth spreads you're in trouble!  ;)
Have fun,
Dom

I think Willy may have gone too far...applying grease, reels and corrosion x to his wife in the middle of the night    ;D

Tarfu....child, bicycle, works great for testing.

Now the Honey Do List.  For me, lubricating fan motor shafts with TSI321, maintenance on  my wife's sewing machines, change out all bicycle grease to marine grade grease, corrosionX chains,...  It's a never ending battle...Oh and my powre tools work better with clean grease and on the shafts TSI321...

I have been using Alan's bearing packer to lube any bearings I can find at home... less the air-con's compressor as it hanging on the outside wall of my 15 floor apartment.
