An absurd lament

This might be like the fishing equivalent of complaining that you have a back problem from sitting on a wallet with too much $ in it.

But multiple times in the past 2 weeks I've seen a large fish swim by near shore, but I couldnt do anything about it because my lure is 60 yds out at the time. By the time I reel in the big one is gone. I'm casting too far to go after the nearby fish.

Absurd complaint, i know. And before you say it: if i knew ahead of time that a big fish was coming close by, I wouldn't cast that far out.

I probably don't need actual help here, I'm just complaining.

people fishing from shore throw long. Bass fishermen in boats cast to 2" of water. go figure.

That's one of the funniest biatch binges I've heard in a long time!  :D Any day fishing, short of drowning, regardless of the outcome, is better than most alternatives.  ;)
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

next time do a little River-Dance/Striptease to keep it in the zone
(not near family parks, playgrounds, or schools)

Once while living on the Sacramento River, I saw a largish ( is that even a word?) sturgeon swim between the river bank and the boat dock in about 3' of water.  Noting the time, I went back at the same time the next day, tossed a piece of cut mackerel into the projected path.  Sure enough the fish swam by, picked up the bait.  I set the hook, held on while it pulled off 15 yards of line and promptly broke me off.  Are fish creatures of habit?  This sturgeon was......you might try again and get lucky....Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

so, thats with any reel/rod combo or its a "new problem" you have with the 10' Suzuki special MH rod?

asking that because I have 10' blazer rod (German) for cast 1/2oz lures or even 1/4oz pretty far and because of the extra long rear grip its difficult to pitch or cast to a near targets, so with that said, I dont find your lament that absurd.

I recall reading that you were casting 'till the other side of the river because you were puting your lure on the bushes at the shore of the river, I had that same problem when I used to fish on the all-american canal with my light surfishing gear, I was hesitate to buy some freshwater gear because I was living (and still) at the sea side but I ended up buying a daiwa light bass fishing combo and it made the fresh water fishing more pleasurable and I even used it for rock shore fishing with a lot of success.

yeah, don't you have a short L/ML Ugly?  ...even if 1-pc., travels nicely w/ 10' 2-pc.
how much hassle would it be to bring along & have rigged-n-ready, w/in reach?

I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

if you're just moving between several key locations, rather than walking the bank/beach,
one thing I like to do, is catch a big local baitfish & put it out on a circle under a float
(not too far, for best line control + old/nearsighted), then work 2nd lighter rod w/ smaller lure/bait
you know -- cast wherever & bring it in toward distressed baitfish for half-interested follows
...also, something smaller eyeing the big baitfish, gets a smaller option retrieved through zone

Definite excuse to purchase another rod, so you can keep it at the ready.

This was sort of intended to be a silly thread. I could certainly bring a 2nd rod. Philaromans idea of bait fish + lure is pretty brilliant though.

And i have not used the Suzuki for bass yet. Might be too much power.

Like I say this isn't a legit problem more of a "one that got away" kind of lament. I've put so much focus on long casting lately that I forgot there's fish close to shore too.
