Does an Accurate Boss Xtreme 400N get any benefit from a Bearing sleeve?

Alan and gang,

I just got this little bad boy, an Accurate Boss Xtreme 400N from our man Randy, eventho seems that it was previously serviced by Accurate I opted to do it again Alantaniway, so cleaned the Cals Grease and put Yamaha marine on it, cleaned the bearings and put some tsi321 and it came with the regular black rubber knob and I installed a new handle knob there until find a blue one for it
the freespool increased a lot on when the reel is freespool, but it has a small "grind noise" and/or makes a low scratchy "kinda weird" sound on 10# strike or more, I said "weird" sound because I can hear a low sound similar to the one that an avet reel makes when the pinion bearing is toasted but on this accurate I DONT feel any kind of binding on the handle just the sound (maybe is the nature of the beast), anyway, I will chance that Pinion Bearing in chance later but for now I wanted to ask the next.

do you think it could get any benefit from a Bearing Sleeve as the Boss 197 on its time?

any one has or sell Bearing sleeve for this reel ?

ok, I just installed new pinion bearing and the two spool bearings, the small grinding noise at 10# strike is gone (uuuff), the spool spins 3x better at free spool than before and the handle is really smooth and free at 12# strike then the lever stops on the pushing bottom and stay free and smooth if you continue to move the lever passing the pushing bottom until 15# then you start to feel a small resistance on the handle, its pretty acceptable until you reach 18# then is noticeable (not uncomfortable), the reel reads 23# at full the binding there is pretty noticiable but not as hard as on the fathom reel, pretty sure on this accurate using 23# while figthing a fish you wont be noticing the resistance on the handle.

so, eventho Accurate says this reel it reachs 26# of useful drag I think I better keep it for 40# line and 12# strike, if needed I know that if I move the lever a bit more from strike position (above the pushing bottom) I will have around 15-16# which is good for 70% of local fish and still have a smooth handle with almost not resistance/binding.

PS: I will look to make a bearing sleeve later and check if that helps a bit, too busy right now.

most reels will benefit a little.  it's just way too much work to cut one unless you have a small lathe.   :-\

dang, no, I dont have a lathe, so, a lathe is needed to get the cut on the tube straight and put equal pressure on the bearings, right?

yup.  honestly, unless it's a casting competition, i wouldn't bother.

I totally forgot about this thread until few days that I was checking my reel and noticed the "problem" at the handle with new bearings including the pinion bearing.
soo, Alan, I though the bearing sleeve was more to help with the handle binding at high drag setting than for the casteability of the reel

A bearing sleeve goes between the two spool bearings and improves freespool.
