The first rule of fishing is to fish where the fish are. The second rule of fishing is to never forget the first rule.

Good onya, Bob!!!

I'm gonna throw props here- had some Abu questions a couple months back...Bob took my call and is a gracious and extremely knowledgeable gentleman and scholar on the subject. He'd be in the top of the list I'd trust to get my Ambassadeurs done.

I've never been to your part of the world.

other than the BIG LAKES fishing, what else do you fish for in your area??

Inquiring minds.....

I have a cousin that lives in North Dakota, and they enjoy their summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Oh man, the UP is great, one of the best trout fisheries in the country.  There are countless untouched streams up there, and even a few have coaster brook trout, which are lake run and get much bigger than the resident brookies.  Coaster brookies only occur in Lake Superior tribs and rivers in Maine that flow into the Atlantic.  They're a very special fish and a bucket list species for many.

If you're normally a saltwater fisherman, much of that gear translates to Great Lakes fishing as well.  The smaller outfits you would use for inshore trolling work equally well for salmon, steelhead, lake trout, and musky.  You can even surf fish here, especially when the thermocline is conducive to the salmonids being in shallower water.  Once summer is in full swing, you're going to be fishing deeper water.

If you come down my way, the walleye bite in the St Clair River, Saginaw Bay, Detroit River, and Lake Erie is always very good throughout the year.  Some days the bite is so good you can catch a limit on the blink of an eye.  If you've never had walleye, it's a real treat.  Sweet and flaky and melts in your mouth.  Dang it, now I'm hungry for walleye lol

Then there's Lake St Clair situated between the St Clair River and Detroit River, arguably the best smallmouth and musky fishery the world over.  The musky has a reputation for being the fish of 10,000 casts, but they aren't anywhere that elusive here.  Lake St Clair is shallow, average depth of 11ft and it's like a fish sanctuary.  The smallmouth here get much bigger than the largemouth.  I've caught maybe a handful of largemouth over the 5lb mark.  When I was big into bass fishing many years ago, I was catching many smallmouth that size any time I went out.  Those too are also great eating, unlike the largemouth.

Then lastly, the St Clair River, great sturgeon fishing there.  A friend of mine is a master sturgeon fisherman.  All it takes is 2lb of lead to keep it from getting blown in the current and a ball of crawlers and you'll hook up.  He got his personal best this past fall at 71".  I think that pic is even in my Facebook profile if you scroll down a little.

Facebook and I don't get along very well, but I was able to read some of your discussions.  Very nicely done.  Having your own domain might be better in the long run.

I'm new to Facebook as well, never wanted to have anything to do with it other than for business purposes.  We do own the ashlinfishing.com domain and currently in the process of setting up a website.  It's pretty nifty, we have an online form that the customer fills out, once submitted they are added to the work queue.  Our invoicing is really neat too, once work is completed we hit submit and it fires off the invoice to the customer and they can pay with debit, credit, PayPal, per Venmo.  We're hoping to have the site live sooner rather than later.
