This is apparently an attractive lure to them nocturnal feeding reef denizens. Only fished it 3 times; landed: 2-Heller's Barracuda(kawelea), 2-Fork-Tail Snappers(wahanui)and a nice Bluefin Trevally(omilu). So many bites that I missed... Last time out, I got the omilu on this lure and a wahanui at the same time(on the fly tied to the leader, above it).

A couple of slightly circular wider gouges on the lower 1/2 are from the treble hooks

A nice functional plug. Casts great, and floats at a 45 degree angle. A Daiwa "Salt Pro Minnow 15 F".

I troll 2 lines, both with floating plugs and a fly about 4' up on each. Usually in 15 - 40 ft. of water. Once I hook-up and stop the yak, any rig(the one without a fish on it) that sinks is lost, hence 2-floating lures. On a windy morning the yak sometimes is blown back into the line when I gotta stop and will sometimes tangle up hopelessly on the rudder(to dangerous to crawl back there and free it up), so you can't win unless trolling with the wind. Rudder tangled lures are usually still there when I get back to shore.

A fun but scary thing is listening for the wave break spots where it shallows-out to about < 10ft. I know where they are—-in the daylight—-but in the darkness, I can't be certain where "I'm" at. Bout an 8 second interval swell, while trolling about 5mph, and it could get me before I can tell what's about to happen and turn.

I use those too, they work well. I switch the hooks to inline singles.  Makes releasing fish easier. Never tried trolling them, they cast pretty well and the fish like them, especially barracuda
Do what you can with that you have where you are

That's an impressive streak.  Good going.

Gfish - Last thing I am going to do is tell you to stop doing what you are doing that is already working!  But I will say the lure that you are using looks very similar to a Lucky Craft which I have had some success with in the surf.  Keep nailing those reef denizens! john

Gfish

How much for a "lucky craft"? The Salt Pro's are about $11 at W.M.

The LC 110 Flash minnow series are usually around $15. - john

Impressive array of fish.

I am dead scared of lures with two trebles, often one hook catches the fish and the second catches the angler when trying to release it.

Have often wondered how you do that on a Yak.

Yeah. Somethin to think about. Lot's of bites without hookin-up. And I rarely keep my fish anymore. Might be better to release the critters while they're still in the water from a de-barbed hook with pliers...
I got it. Get another one and set it up like that and see how it works.

Gonna try it. Maybe it's easy to tell—-I'm bored. Woke-up sick on my way out to the reef a couple of days ago and stayed home.
Stupid house-mate refused to get vaccinated and brought SARS home to me. Took about 3 days of his symptoms, before it got me. Don't know what strain it is, but it's kicking my immune compromised butt. After 2-shots and a booster months ago, I "almost" made it. I think, anyway.
I really wanna let loose on him, but I'm afraid I'll go way too far. Can't go back to work and the really need me now. Need to wait for on no more symptom's, then another 5 days. No work, no pay.
I'm so sick of irresponsible, childish adults(in age ONLY!).

Well, that proves it.  It's everywhere now.  Our kid bought it home from a wedding.  Then weeks later my wife brings it home from a baby party.  I have no social life and escaped so far.

Get well soon.  Get the pill if you need it.  Nice touch with the bucktail.
